The conference participants can receive a discounted rate at the following hotels in Bucharest:

Marshall Hotel (http://www.hotelmarshal.ro/index_en.html). 2 Emanoil Bacaloglu St., Sector 2, Bucharest.

Please be aware that Marshall Hotel has another building (5 stars hotel), at a different address (Calea Dorobantilor nr. 50B, Sector 1, Bucuresti). The university officials have negotiated with the hotel administration for special rate rooms only at the Emanoil Bacaloglu Marshal Hotel (3 stars hotel). As well, please be aware that the Marshal Hotel building adjacent to the conference venue has a limited number of rooms (29 rooms).

Getting around in Bucharest

1) The best (cheapest) way to get from the airport to the city centre (Universitate - University Square) is the express bus 783. You have to buy tickets (one two-way ticket is 7 ron, roughly the equivalent of 1.6 eur) from the automated machines or from the cashiers' office, both placed at the bus station from the arrivals terminal, at the ground level. You have to get off at Piata Universitatii (University Square - you will see on your left the tall Intercontinental Hotel) - everybody knows the square by this name although in this bus schedule it is officially named 21 December 1989 Square.

2) The second option to get to the city centre is by taxi. Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport is located about 17 km from Bucharest city centre (University Square). Depending on the traffic, a travel with the taxi can take about 30 minutes. You can order a taxi by using the automated info kiosks from the airport arrivals terminal. We recommend you to:

-          Ask for the taxi meter to be started and pay only the amount indicated by the metering (see below a table copied from the Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport webpage, with approximate prices – highlighted is the price for Universitate – the center of the city where the conference center and the Marshal Hotel are placed).

-          Make sure that you ask for the taxi meter invoice and that you pay the amount indicated on that invoice. Tip is quite common when riding a cab, and the amount is roughly 10-20% of the total amount indicated by the metering machine.

-          Please DO NOT accept any other offerings from taxi drivers, like hitchhiking, paying a negotiated rate, sharing the cab with an unknown person.

-          Note the ID number of the cab for possible further complaints.

Taxi – maximal rate per kilometer – 3.5 ron/km (but it can be as low as 1.39 ron/km)

Taxi – maximal rate when starting the journey – 3.5 ron

Taxi – maximal rate when stationing – 35 ron/hour.

3) We recommend you to use the exchange offices from the arrivals terminal only to exchange the amount you would need for a taxi ride or the 783 express bus, as these offices use very high rates when selling you Romanian currency.

For reference, the Romanian Central Bank exchange rate on August 29, 2013 are:

4.446 RON / 1 EUR;

3.351 RON / 1 USD.

More info on this, here: http://bnr.ro/Exchange-rates-1224.aspx

We recommend you to exchange foreign currency at banks – there are plenty of banks in Bucharest, more so in the city centre. Any bank office has a currency exchange office with exchange rates closer to the official Romanian Central Bank rate.

You can also use currency exchange offices other that the banks’ ones. In this case please make sure that you use exchange offices that show a 0% commission (commissioning is very rare, and it must be showed on the exchange rate information board). Also, please make sure that you keep the exchange invoice for any possible complaints, and make sure that you received the amount indicated on the invoice.

For getting acquainted with the Romanian currency you can visit this link from the Romanian Central Bank: http://bnr.ro/Coins-and-notes-in-circulation-1331.aspx

4) If you have problems make sure that you have a roaming mobile phone. In an emergency you can call the official public emergency number 112.

5) The university building where the conference will take place is adjacent to the Marshall Hotel, mentioned in the Travel and Accommodation section.
